Dillard Drive Elem PTA Board Meeting

November 5, 2007

 

Attendees:  Diane Dulaney, Regina Stone, Valerie Brooks, Teena Rembach, Maxine Ledger, Susan Uy, Terri Beresid, Peggy Cheek, Lisa Wesson, Jennifer Seiger

 

 

Vice - Principal – Teena Rembach

            Two new staff members have been added.  LaKeisha Hunter – 2nd grade Teacher Assistant to replace

Mrs. Martin who accepted a Middle School position.  Sheila Nedoma – Teacher Assistant for Autistic Level 1

            New person is coming in January for Math 3,4,5 ALP, Challenge & Title I

            Mrs. Poovey will be returning after Thanksgiving.

            Parent/Teacher conferences are this week.

            Megan Swanson is Teacher of the Year.

 

Box Tops – Susan Uy

            Collected 2,529 box tops in October which averages to 3 per child

            Mrs. Morgans 2nd grade class collected the most with 232 box tops

In January & June will have a celebration to recognize the “Box Top Boss”, the student that turns in the most box tops.

Would like to come up with some fun, creative ways to get the students into box tops on the Morning Show.  For example: January Jingle – kids can create a jingle for them to read or sing on the morning show.

            Funny Box Top Hat – what can you create out of the remnants of the boxes.

Go to www.boxtops4education.com and click on Marketplace.  You can buy items on-line at various vendors and a donation will be made to your school.

 

Treasurer/Budget – Valerie Brooks

We currently have $20,861.86.  We need to pay scholastic $4,000.

We have currently collected $9,954.38 from the Dragonfly Dash.

Almost Recess – lost $600

Filed taxes – will go out today

Link Up – have $350 almost reached our goal of $400

Membership has increased

Looking into changing from a PTA to a PTO.  We would loose all of our current $ to the PTA

            Would have to reapply for a tax-exempt status.

 

Yearbook – Peggy Cheek

            Sold 261 yearbooks, bringing in a profit of $700

            Will increase activity pages – cost $45 each

            If a parent wishes to donate an activity page to Art or Music – it is $45

            We have a parent volunteer to take a 5th grade group shot – looking into options

 

Cultural Arts – Jennifer Seiger

            November 27th will have a performance of Hanzel & Gretal for all grade levels.

 

President – Diane Dulaney

Ms. Kepke’s class will have a Sand Art party on Thursday for being the class with the highest donations for the Dragonfly Dash.

We had 35% participation from the school.

Chris Loomis – proposal for Character Ed – will be going before the staff

 

Literacy- A/R

            Have a new system for students to look for books – they can pull up a picture of the cover of the book and also be able to see if it is an A/R book

 

Hospitality

            Christie Spain – needing donations from parents to make gift baskets for all of the teachers.  Will be sending out “wish lists” in the newsletter.           

 

Newsletter – Deadline is Wed., Nov 28th

 

Proposed to have “Business Sponsors” to donate to cost of printing the Dragonfly Dispatch.  The business will be advertised in the issue they sponsor.

 

Proposed having a PTA Parent of the Year.

 

Need someone to write up a PTA Grant of $1,900.   The grant is for ways to bring parents into schools.  Let us know of any ideas.

 

CandyMan

            Money is due no later than Wed., Nov7th.  Have had a couple of negative responses from parents.

           

BINGO night will be our last fundraiser for this school year.

 

 

Schedule for PTA Board Meetings:

            February 4th  - 5:30pm

            March 24th – 9:30am

            June 2nd – 5:30pm

 

 

The next meeting is scheduled for December 6th   to coincide with the Winter Concert.

The next PTA board meeting is scheduled for February 4th @ 5:30pm.
