Dillard Drive Elem PTA Board Meeting

February 4, 2008

 

Attendees:  Diane Dulaney, Regina Stone, Valerie Brooks, Susan Uy, Michelle Young, Kris Loomis, Sharon Johnson, Sylvia Wilkins

 

 

 Principal – Sylvia Wilkins

            Character Ed - Ordering banners for hallway.  Mrs. Poovey will pay for ½ and PTA will pay for ½.

            We really want to promote Character Ed.

School reassignments will be socially economically balanced.  We currently have 38% free & reduced lunch

We will be getting students from Hunter & Coombs.  Sylvia has been giving tours to parents of students that will be reassigned to Dillard next year.

No cap on 4th & 5th grade class size.  The classes will remain large until the end of school year.

 

Financial Update  – Valerie Brooks

Received 1st check from Box Tops in the amount of $980.84.  $600 will go to A/R the remaining balance of $380.84 will go towards Playground Umbrellas

Odyssey of the Mind over budget by $180 due to sending in registration late

Would like to purchase 2 new cast aluminum benches to replace wood benches that have fallen apart.  2 benches cost $500.  Will add $250 to Buildings & Grounds budget to purchase benches.

 

A/R – Michelle Young

Need a lot of Volunteers to work in library to categorize A/R books.  We are working to build the A/R program. 

Leap to Read started today. 

Literacy Budget of $1,500 – use $700 for Leap to Read

 

Box Tops – Susan Uy

Umbrellas for playground cost between $1,500 - $11,000.  Looking at $2,500 umbrella, which will attach to existing playground structures.

Asking parents to send in recycled packaging material from Box Tops products for students to create art from.  Will challenge the students to create Original Art and will have the students judge the artwork.

 

President – Diane Dulaney

BINGO night will be April 11th.  Have had great participation in the past.  Will have 10 prizes at $40 – 45 range.

Proposing raising next years PTA dues from $5 to $8.

 

Candy Grams – Regina Stone

We will sell Candy Grams on Monday, Feb.11 – Wednesday, Feb. 13th in the hall during the mornings and during lunchtime.  The Candy Grams will sell for .50 and will be delivered on February 14th.  Looking for Volunteers to help sell Candy Grams.

 

Next PTA meeting is scheduled to be held before the Spring Concert on March 18th

 

 

The next PTA board meeting is scheduled for March 24th @ 9:30am.
